SJPD Arrest Suspects for Sexual Battery

The San Jose Police Department has arrested a suspect for sexual battery.

San Jose, Calif. - The San Jose Police Department arrested suspect Ranjit Singh Birk for Sexual Battery (misdemeanor) - 243.4(e)(1)PC. Birk worked as a customer service representative at Avis Rental Car in San Jose for over 20 years.

On September 3, 2019, the female victim contacted her local police department to report the incident. The victim was renting a vehicle at Avis Car Rental located at 1659 Airport Boulevard in San Jose when she was greeted by the suspect who allegedly touched her inappropriately. The report was forwarded to the San Jose Police Department’s Sexual Assault Investigations Unit.

On January 9, 2020, San Jose Police officers arrested Birk at his residence in San Jose and booked him into the Santa Clara County Jail on one count of Sexual Battery.

Detectives believe there is a likelihood of additional victims and are asking anyone with information regarding this incident or any other similar incidents to contact Detective Jennifer Valosek of the San Jose Police Department's Sexual Assault Unit at 408-277-4102.
