San Jose, Calif. - On Sunday, March 22, 2020, at about 3:53 PM, San Jose police officers responded to a person shot in the 2300 block of McKee Road in San Jose. Arriving officers located an adult male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Officers also took custody of suspect Antonio Llabres, who had been taken into custody at the scene by a security guard, prior to police arrival. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The preliminary investigation revealed there was limited interaction between the victim and suspect before the suspect suddenly shot the victim. Llabres was booked into Santa Clara County Jail for murder.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation. At this time, there is no indication the shooting had anything to do with current events surrounding Coronavirus (COVID-19).
This is the City's 8th homicide of 2020.
