San Jose Police Investigating Fatal Vehicle Collision

On 9/27/2020 at approximately 08:17 AM, patrol Officers responded to the area of Alum Rock Avenue and Alexander Avenue to investigate a collision involving two vehicles. 

The preliminary investigation revealed the following: A 2007 white work van was traveling westbound on Alum Rock Avenue at a high rate of speed. The work van entered the intersection of Alexander Avenue against a solid red light. The work van collided into a 2002 red Nissan Maxima which was travelling southbound on Alexander Avenue. 

The male driver of the Maxima was pronounced deceased at the scene. An adult female passenger of the Nissan Maxima was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The adult male driver of the work van was uninjured. He was subsequently arrested and booked into jail for vehicle manslaughter and reckless driving. 

This is the City's 35th traffic fatality incident of 2020 with the 35th and 36th victims. 

The identity of the victims will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after they confirm their identities and notify next of kin.
