SJPD Investigating Fatal Traffic Collision at Grand Century Mall

On October 11, 2020, at approximately 12:27 PM patrol Officers responded to an injury collision at the Grand Century Mall. The collision involved a vehicle and multiple pedestrians, it occurred in front of 1001 Story Road. The preliminary investigation revealed the following: A 69 year-old male was attempting to park his 2000 Toyota 4-Runner when he accidentally accelerated forward into an outdoor dining area.  

The vehicle struck three adult females, and five adult males. All eight victims were sitting at various tables. The eight victims that were struck were all transported to local hospitals. Two have life threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle was also transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. 

*Update: Yesterday October 12th one of the adult females succumbed to her injuries at the hospital and was pronounced deceased. The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after they confirm the victim’s identity and notify next of kin. *

This is the 39th fatal traffic collision of 2020 and 40th victim. 

This is the 17th auto versus pedestrian fatal collision for 2020.
