On January 15th, 2021, at approximately 4:25 AM Officers responded to the 200 Block of Lynette Way on a report of an adult male discharging a firearm in the street. Multiple callers reported the incident. When Officers arrived, the suspect was no longer in the street. Officers began to investigate and canvassed the immediate area in an attempt to locate witnesses and/or evidence. It was during this time that the suspect re-appeared and fired at least one round in the direction of the Officers. Officers took cover and were unable to engage the suspect. Officers were not hit by gunfire.

A perimeter was established to locate and isolate the suspect who fled on foot after firing at the Officers. A contingent of Patrol, Special Operations, and the Tactical Negotiations Unit responded to the scene.

During the investigation it was discovered that the suspect fled into his residence on Duffy Way. The Tactical Negotiations Unit was able to make contact and began dialogue with the suspect, which resulted in his peaceful surrender and arrest. A subsequent search of the residence yielded a firearm, which is believed to be used in the assault.

The suspect has been identified as Suliasi Kaho, 27 years old, a resident of San Jose. He had an outstanding out of county misdemeanor warrant for his arrest at the time of this incident.

The motive and circumstances regarding this incident are still under investigation.

The suspect has been booked into the Santa Clara County jail for two counts of attempted murder of a police officer, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and carrying a loaded firearm in public.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Dorris #4381 of the San Jose Police Department’s Assault unit at 408-277-4161.
