On April 8th, 2021, at approximately 4:57 PM Officers responded to the 1100 block of South 1st Street on a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian hit and run collision. When they arrived, they located an adult male victim suffering from life threatening injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital and on April 16th, 2021, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was connected to a carjacking and used the vehicle as a weapon to intentionally attack the victim.
An extensive follow-up investigation by SJPD Homicide Detectives led to the identification of the suspect. On April 20th, patrol Officers located the suspect and took her into custody. The suspect was charged with homicide, carjacking, and assault with a deadly weapon.
This was the City's 13th homicide of 2021.
