On April 26th, 2021, at approximately 9:57 PM, Officers responded to the area of Lawrence Expressway and Mitty Way to assist the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office with a collision investigation involving two vehicles. Upon arrival, San José Officers assumed responsibility of the traffic collision investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 2017 Honda Accord was traveling northbound on Lawrence Expressway. As the Honda Accord traveled through a red signal light, at Mitty Way, it collided with a 1999 Toyota Camry, which was turning left onto Mitty Way. The impact pushed the Toyota Camry approximately 250 feet forward, into the sound wall, where it came to rest. Both the adult male driver and the adult female passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Both the adult male driver and the 17-year-old passenger of the Honda Accord were transported to a local hospital by ambulance with moderate, non-life-threatening injuries. Both occupants of the Honda Accord were subsequently arrested for evading an officer, gross vehicular manslaughter, and various firearms and narcotics charges. At the time of this release the suspects are still in the hospital receiving treatment for their injuries. Once released they will be booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail and Juvenile Hall for respective charges.

This is the 14th fatal traffic collision for 2021, with victims 14 and 15.
The identity of the victims will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after they confirm the victim’s identity and notify next of kin.
