On May 7th, 2021, at approximately 12:39 AM, Officers responded to the intersection of Suncrest Ave and Perie Lane to investigate a hit and run collision involving a vehicle and an on-duty pedestrian SJPD Officer. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
The Officer, in full uniform, had completed an unrelated vehicle stop and was walking back to his marked patrol vehicle. A Subaru sedan, travelling at an unsafe speed, struck the Officer on the side of the roadway. The vehicle and driver fled the scene immediately after the collision. The suspect was located a short time later by arriving Officers and taken into custody without incident. The primary collision factor is still under investigation.
The Officer was transported to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The Officer has one year’s experience with the San José Police Department.
The suspect was booked at Santa Clara County Main Jail. The case is still under investigation, and official charges are pending District Attorney review.
