SJPD Investigating Traffic Fatality #38

On August 14th, 2021, at approximately 9:01 PM, Officers responded to the area of Almaden Avenue and Willow Street to investigate a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2005 Ford F-150 was traveling northbound on Almaden Avenue at a high rate of speed. The vehicle traveled into the Willow Street intersection against a red signal light, and struck an adult male that was believed to be walking across the street in a marked crosswalk. The adult male driver fled the scene in his vehicle immediately after the collision. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

At 10:24 PM, the suspect driver was located and arrested in the 1100 Block of Starbird Circle. The suspect was booked at Santa Clara County Main Jail for felony DUI, felony hit and run, and gross vehicular manslaughter.

This is the 38th fatal collision and the 39th victim of 2021. This is the 15th pedestrian death this year.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after they confirm the victim’s identity and notify next of kin.
