On Wednesday, July 21, 2021, the Financial Crimes Unit conducted initial follow up on the financial elder abuse of a 75-year old victim. The victim had approximately $140,000 stolen from him by the time SJPD was made aware of the scheme.
Over the course of several months, Detectives developed several leads and identified the primary suspects. On July 29, 2021, Financial Crimes Unit detectives arrested two brothers, Henry and Dung Truong, as co-conspirators. Further investigation, with the assistance of the District Attorney's Office Elder Fraud Unit, led to the identification of suspect Huynh, a third co-conspirator and courier for the scheme. On October 6, 2021, Financial Crimes Unit Detectives located suspect Huynh and arrested him in San José.
All three suspects are facing felony charges of elder fraud, conspiracy, two counts of grand theft, and one count of attempted grand theft.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Wellman #4447 of the San José Police Department’s Financial Crimes Unit at 408-277-4521.
