On August 30, 2021, at approximately 2:30 PM, an attempted murder occurred in the 1200 block of Sundown Lane in San José. Four males arrived in a vehicle and approached the victim. The victim was punched in the face by one of the suspects and then chased by the group. One of the suspects pulled out a firearm and shot the victim in the back as the victim ran away. The suspects fled the scene in a black vehicle. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where his injuries were later determined to be non-life threatening.

After additional follow-up, Suspect Edwin Amezcua was positively identified as the shooter of the victim.

On November 11, 2021, officers from the Covert Response Unit (CRU) located and apprehended Suspect Edwin Amezcua in San José for his outstanding attempted murder warrant. During the apprehension, two additional suspects were contacted with him and taken into custody for on-view charges.

Suspect Cinadin Perez-Acevedo was found to be in possession of a controlled substance for sales and transportation of a controlled substance for sale. Suspect Brayan Perez-Macias was found to be in possession of a concealed firearm on his person; the firearm had a selector switch attached to the rear of the slide of the firearm, which is commonly used to convert the firearm into an assault weapon/machine gun. Suspect Brayan Perez-Macias was arrested for multiple weapons charges. All the three suspects were booked into Santa Clara County Jail.
