 On January 22, 2022, at approximately 7:41 PM, Officers responded to the area of North Jackson Avenue and Mather Drive for a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2001 Toyota Sports Utility Vehicle, driven by an adult male driver, was traveling southbound on North Jackson Avenue in the number one lane. The Toyota struck an adult male pedestrian that was crossing North Jackson Avenue in an eastbound direction across lanes of traffic, outside of any marked crosswalk. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Per witness statements the Toyota had a green traffic signal at the intersection.

The driver of the Toyota initially left the scene and drove a short distance away. He phoned 911 to report the collision and returned to the scene. The driver cooperated with the investigation.

This is the 8th fatal collision and victim number 9 of 2022. This is also pedestrian fatality number 6 of the year.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after they confirm the victim’s identity and notify next of kin.
