On January 23, 2022, at approximately 4:40 AM, Officers responded to the area of The Alameda and Newhall Street for a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
An unknown year and make, possible transit van, was traveling eastbound on The Alameda approaching the intersection with Newhall Street. The van struck a pedestrian that was in the marked crosswalk of the intersection. The van stopped momentarily and then drove away from the scene.
The adult male was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. On January 28 the pedestrian was pronounced deceased from injuries sustained in the collision.
During the investigation only one witness was located who had limited information. At this time, it is unknown if either the driver or the pedestrian had a traffic signal to proceed through the intersection. Neither the vehicle nor the driver have been identified.
This is the 9th fatal collision and victim number 10 of 2022. This is also pedestrian fatality number 7 of the year.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office.
