On February 9th, 2022, at approximately 5:53 PM, Officers responded to the area of Senter Road and Needles Drive for a collision involving a Valley Transportation Authority bus and a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 1999 Gilig bus driven by an adult male stopped at a bus stop for a waiting passenger/rider. The rider was not wearing a mask and was not allowed to board the bus. As the bus pulled away from the curb, the waiting passenger, an adult female, tripped and fell to the ground. At this time, it is unknown what caused the female to trip and fall. As the bus pulled away, the back tires of the vehicle ran over the victim. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

The bus driver cooperated with the investigation and gave a statement.

On February 21st, the victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.

This is the 16th fatal collision, and 17th victim of 2022. This is also the 9th pedestrian death of the year.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after they confirm the victim’s identity and notify next of kin.
