On March 2nd, 2022, at approximately 5:34 AM, Officers responded to the area of Alum Rock Avenue and Highway 680 for a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 2006 Chevrolet HHR, driven by a solo adult male driver, was traveling westbound on Alum Rock Avenue entering the northbound Highway 680 on-ramp. The Chevrolet struck an adult female pedestrian who was crossing the on-ramp entrance in a designated crosswalk.
The driver of the Chevrolet remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. No drug or alcohol influence was suspected.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. The victim was stabilized although still suffering from serious injuries.
On March 17th the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.
This is the 21st fatal collision, and 22nd victim of 2022. This is also the 12th pedestrian death of the year.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after they confirm the victim’s identity and notify next of kin.
