MEDIA ADVISORY
The San José Police Department launched a consolidated web page of dashboards using Microsoft Power BI to provide community members a one-stop-shop to review important statistical data. Power BI is a business intelligence application that turns data into coherent, visually immersive dashboards. The interactive dashboards show insightful trends and allow the viewer to analyze data. This tool also emphasizes the Department's commitment to transparency in all that we do.
SJPD's Bureau of Technical Services worked in the development of this tool for several months. The dashboards provide live metrics for police response times and current monthly FBI reported information. The reports feature several San José data-specific dashboards, which include a dynamic Police Response Time Report, 22 years of FBI Uniform Crime Reporting, and nine years of reported FBI Hate Crimes.
The Power BI page features a guide that will show users how to navigate the dashboards, find dates of published data, filter information, and more. The dashboards were constructed in a manner that will facilitate ease of use.
“We are committed to utilizing technology to enhance efficiency, effectiveness and informed decision making. This dashboard will set the standard for technology-based community data sharing and reaffirms our commitment to transparency and collaboration,” said Chief of Police Anthony Mata.

The Department will continue to feature Crimemapping.com, which displays recent reported police activity geographically on a map.
