On April 22nd, 2022, at approximately 1:19 AM, Officers responded to the area of North First Street and Montague Expressway to investigate a traffic collision involving two vehicles. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2014 Honda CRV, occupied by an adult male driver, and three passengers, was traveling southbound on North First Street in the number one lane approaching the intersection with Montague Expressway. Initial information is that the driver ran the red light at the intersection and collided with a 2022 Toyota sedan that was traveling westbound on Montague Expressway with a green light.

The adult male driver of the Honda sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 3 passengers, one adult male, and two juvenile females, were also transported to a local hospital. They all had non-life-threatening injuries.

The adult male driver of the Toyota was also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

This is the 27th fatal collision, and 29th traffic death of 2022.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after they confirm the victim’s identity and notify next of kin.
