On May 16, 2022, at approximately 12:35 PM, Officers responded to the 2500 block of South King Road to investigate a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The collision occurred in a parking lot. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2014 Toyota minivan, driven by an adult male driver, was driving southbound through the parking lot at normal speed. The vehicle then drove eastbound through the lot traveling in a parking stall aisle. The vehicle struck a pedestrian who was walking through the parking lot.

The pedestrian, an elderly male, suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital. He was stabilized after arriving. While at the hospital his condition deteriorated, he was pronounced deceased approximately four hours later.

The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation. He did not display any alcohol or drug impairment.

This is the 31st fatal collision, and the 33rd traffic death of 2022. This is also the 19th pedestrian fatality.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
