On June 6th, 2022, at approximately 3:30 pm, Officers responded to a shooting and stabbing incident inside the Hillview Public Library located in the 1600 block of Hopkins Drive. When they arrived, they located an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound and one stab wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects fled and were not identified. Based on preliminary information this incident was determined to be a gang related incident.

Detectives from the Gang Investigations Unit and the Violent Crimes Enforcement Team (VCET) immediately began to work on identifying the suspects responsible for this incident.

On June 8th, with the assistance of the SJPD Covert Response Unit (CRU) and additional detectives, a search warrant was executed at a residence in the 2100 block of Lyons Drive. Suspect Hernandez, 20 years old, was taken into custody. A 14-year-old male juvenile was also identified and arrested at the same location. The adult was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted murder and various other charges. The juvenile was booked into Juvenile Hall for the same charges. Both will also be facing gang enhancements.
