On June 23, 2022, at approximately 1:44 PM, Officers responded to the area of Monterey Road and Capitol Expressway to investigate a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2018 International truck, that was pulling a trailer, driven by and adult male driver, was turning left from southbound Monterey Road onto westbound Capitol Expressway when it struck an adult female pedestrian. The investigation revealed that the pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk, however, she was crossing against a red traffic signal. The truck had a green signal for the left turn.

The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation. He did not display any alcohol or drug impairment.

This is the 32nd fatal collision, and the 34th traffic death of 2022. This is also the 20th pedestrian fatality.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
