SJPD Arrests Two Suspects for 2018 Homicide

Homicide detectives conducted a comprehensive investigation that led to the identification of suspects Arellano and Ascencio as the persons responsible for this incident. On July 14th, 2022, the San José Police Covert Response Unit (CRU) arrested Arellano and Ascencio for the 2018 murder of Victim Khanh Kieu. Victim Kieu was shot and killed on June 21st, 2018 in the City of San José. Victim Kieu left behind his wife and young children. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office formally filed murder charges against Arellano and Ascencio. The motive and circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation.

On June 21st, 2018, at approximately 1:30 PM, Officers responded to the 3600 block of Misty Glen Court on a report of a person shot. When they arrived, they found an adult male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The victim was identified as Khanh Kieu, a resident of San José. 

This was the City's 13th homicide of 2018.
