On July 31st, 2022, at approximately 6:15 AM, Officers responded to assist the San José Fire Department with a vehicle fire in the area of Pomona Avenue and Barnard Avenue. Once the vehicle fire was extinguished the body of an adult male was discovered in the interior.
Patrol Officers and Detectives began a comprehensive investigation. An arson investigator with SJFD also assisted with the initial investigation. During the investigation it was revealed that suspect Cabrera was responsible for setting the fire. The suspect was arrested the same day at a homeless encampment in San José and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for homicide.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
The identity of the deceased victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
This is the City's 25th homicide of 2022.
