WHY: Shop with a Cop is an annual event established in 2008 and sponsored by local law enforcement, Target, individual donors, local businesses, and through grants to provide children with a special shopping spree. This year, CEFCU is the presenting sponsor, and the event will host over 200 uniformed officers from roughly 24 different local, state, and federal agencies. These officers will join 275 children from local schools for a special breakfast and then a shopping spree with “Shop with a Cop” to select gifts for themselves and family members, all while building positive experiences with officers. Children were selected by referrals from six local elementary schools. Other children were selected by local police departments based on high profile cases which have impacted young children experiencing a traumatic crisis.

“As a credit union, CEFCU is focused on passing on an exceptional value to our over 380,000 members,” stated Peter Diaz, CA Community President of CEFCU. “As a not-for-profit financial institution, we are equally interested in giving back to the communities in which we serve. The past few years have been especially difficult for many families, and that is why we at CEFCU are very proud to be able to participate along-side the amazing people, and the superb agencies that help to support the mission of Shop with a Cop of Silicon Valley. It takes a community!”

“It’s kind of amazing when you think about the generosity,” said Darrell Cortez, Executive Director for Shop with a Cop of Silicon Valley, “Even in spite of inflation and all kinds of noise in the marketplace, our corporate donors are truly engaging and helping us provide a memorable experience for these special children.”
