On October 30, 2022, at approximately 12:45 AM, Officers responded to the 500 block of Madera Avenue on a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Officers rendered life saving aid. The victim succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Homicide Detectives began a comprehensive and thorough investigation into this incident; during the scope of the investigation two suspects were identified. The first suspect was identified as Rodolfo Perez-Damian, a resident of Sunnyvale. The second suspect was identified as Edgar Merlo Martinez, also of Sunnyvale. Arrest warrants for homicide were obtained and issued for both suspects. On December 21, 2022, both suspects were taken into custody in the city of Sunnyvale by SJPD Special Operations Officers. 

This was the City's 32nd homicide of 2022.
