On November 18, 2022, at approximately 7:30 AM, Officers responded to the 10000 block of Dougherty Avenue on a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Homicide Detectives began a comprehensive and thorough investigation into this incident; the suspect was identified as Humberto Correa-Velasquez, a resident of San José. An arrest warrant for homicide was obtained and issued for the suspect. On December 29, 2022, Correa-Velasquez was taken into custody in Caldwell, Idaho by members of the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force (PSWRFTF). Detectives from the SJPD Homicide Unit responded to Idaho, and with the assistance of the Caldwell Police Department, continued with the on-going investigation into the homicide. The suspect was extradited back to San José on January 6, 2023 and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail.

This was the City's 34th homicide of 2022.
