On February 6, 2023, at approximately 7:01 AM, California Highway Patrol Officers responded to the area of Jackson Avenue and the Highway 680 on-ramp to investigate a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The case was turned over to SJPD at approximately 8:30 AM, when it was determined the accident occurred in our jurisdiction. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 2011 Toyota sedan, driven by an adult female driver, was traveling northbound on Jackson Avenue, making a left turn onto the Highway 680 southbound on-ramp when it struck an adult male pedestrian walking southbound in the crosswalk of the on-ramp. The pedestrian sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Detectives from the SJPD Traffic Investigations Unit (TIU) will be conducting a follow up investigation.
This is the 2nd fatal collision, and the 3rd traffic death of 2023. This is also the 1st pedestrian death of the year.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
