On December 27, 2022, San José Police Officers responded to a robbery and vandalism call in the area of Blue Mountain Drive and Mount McKinley Drive. The victim stated that the suspect intentionally rear-ended her, stole her personal property, then proceeded to threaten to shoot the victim if she followed him. Detectives from the Robbery Unit were assigned to the case and later determined Brian Valverde as the primary suspect.
After a thorough investigation, including the use of automated license plate reader cameras, suspect Valverde was subsequently identified as the responsible party for a string of robberies that spanned from the city of San José to the city of Santa Clara. Investigations revealed the following timeline:
- On January 5, 2023, a strong-armed purse snatch robbery occurred in the parking lot of Bay 101 Casino in San José.
- On January 23, 2023, an assault with a deadly weapon occurred at Matrix Casino in San José. The victim was walking towards the casino when a male suspect approached her with a four-to-six-inch knife. The victim attempted to flee, when the suspect pointed an object that resembled a gun towards the victim and the victim felt contact on the heel of her foot, but did not result in a serious injury.
- On January 22, 2023, an armed robbery with a firearm occurred in the 3000 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard in Santa Clara.
- On January 28, 2023, a robbery and vandalism occurred in the area of Monterey Road and Senter Road in San José. The suspect intentionally rear-ended the victim and stole the victim’s personal property.
- On January 28, 2023, a robbery and vandalism occurred in the 1900 block of The Alameda in San José. The suspect intentionally rear-ended the victim and stole the victim’s personal property.
On January 30, 2023, SJPD Robbery Unit Detectives arrested suspect Valverde in San José. A subsequent search by Detectives found evidence of narcotic sales.
