On March 22, 2023, at approximately 6:27 PM, patrol Officers responded to the area of E. Santa Clara Street and S. 10th Street to investigate a hit-and-run traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 1999 silver Toyota sedan, possibly driven by an adult male, was traveling eastbound on E. Santa Clara Street when it drove against a red traffic signal and struck an adult male pedestrian who was walking northbound across E. Santa Clara Street in a marked crosswalk. The vehicle fled the scene, but was recovered a short time later as a reported stolen vehicle.
The adult male pedestrian was transported to a local hospital after the collision with life-threatening injuries. On April 13, 2023, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
This is the 6th fatal collision, and the 7th traffic death of 2023. This is also the 5th pedestrian death of the year.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
