On May 5, 2023, at approximately 11:08 PM, patrol Officers responded to the 1900 Block of Monterey Road for a report of a person down in the roadway. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
An unknown vehicle travelling southbound on Monterey Road struck an adult male pedestrian in the roadway. The unknown suspect vehicle then fled from the scene. Evidence revealed that a secondary vehicle may have also struck the downed pedestrian. Medical personnel responded and pronounced the pedestrian deceased on scene.
This is the 13th fatal collision, and the 14th traffic death of 2023. This is also the 11th pedestrian death of the year.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
