On May 21, 2023, at approximately 1:38 PM, patrol Officers responded to a rollover vehicle collision in the area of Leigh Avenue and Fruitdale Avenue. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A white 2011 Toyota Corolla sedan, driven by an adult male, was travelling southbound in the northbound lanes of Leigh Avenue through the intersection of Fruitdale Avenue when it struck a gray 2012 Toyota Prius sedan travelling northbound on Leigh Avenue as it entered the intersection of Fruitdale Avenue. The 2012 Toyota Prius was occupied by an adult male driver, an adult female passenger and juvenile male passenger.
The adult male driver of the Toyota Prius was pronounced deceased on scene. The adult female and juvenile male passengers were transported to local hospitals with life threatening injuries and later stabilized.
The adult male driver of the Toyota Corolla was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries and later stabilized. The circumstances surrounding the collision are still under investigation and a determination of criminal charges are pending.
This is the 14th fatal collision, and the 15th traffic death of 2023.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
