On June 1, 2023, at approximately 4:12 PM, Officers responded to the 700 block of East Santa Clara Street for a report of a vehicle collision involving an adult male pedestrian and adult female pedestrian. An Officer working in the area observed the suspect vehicle fleeing the scene. It was later determined that the suspect vehicle was related to multiple violent incidents that occurred throughout the city of San José. Preliminary information obtained on scene revealed the suspect had deliberately driven toward the pedestrians in order to collide with them. The victims were transported to local hospitals where they succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased.
SJPD Homicide Unit Detectives responded to the scene. During the course of the investigation, Officers learned that a homicide incident had occurred in the city of Milpitas and the suspect vehicle had been located. SJPD units responded to Milpitas to assist in the investigation. A short time later, the suspect was located nearby and taken into custody without incident. In coordination with the Milpitas Police Department, SJPD Homicide Units conducted a thorough investigation and identified the suspect as Kevin Parkourana. The suspect was later booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for homicide.
The motive and circumstances surrounding this event are still under investigation.
This was the City's 13th and 14th homicide of 2023.
