On June 5, 2023, at approximately 1:26 AM, patrol Officers responded to a solo vehicle collision in the area of Meridian Avenue and Woodruff Drive. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A Kia sedan driven by an unknown suspect was traveling northbound on Meridian Avenue when it lost control and struck a tree. Excessive speed may have been a factor in the collision. The unknown driver fled the scene and remains unidentified.
The vehicle subsequently became engulfed in flames. After the flames were extinguished, a passenger was located in the vehicle and they were pronounced deceased at the scene.
While conducting follow up, Officers determined that the vehicle was reported stolen.
This is the 18th fatal collision, and the 19th traffic death of 2023.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
