On July 8, 2023, at approximately 9:45 PM, patrol Officers responded to the overpass area of Capitol Expressway and Monterey Road to investigate a fatal hit-and-run collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
An unknown vehicle, occupied by an unknown driver, was travelling westbound on Capitol Expressway when it struck an adult female pedestrian who was walking outside of any marked crosswalk. The driver fled the scene in the suspect vehicle. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.
This is the 24th fatal collision, and the 25th traffic death of 2023. This is also the 16th pedestrian death of the year.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
