On July 17, 2023 at approximately 5:43 PM, Officers responded to the 3000 Block of Story Road for a report of a suspect brandishing a firearm at a store clerk. The suspect fled the scene with stolen merchandise prior to police arrival.

Patrol Officers circulating the area located a vehicle matching the suspect description that was occupied by a male and female. Officers initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Clayton Road and Harvest Drive. During the traffic stop, the suspect did not comply with the Officer's commands. The suspect exited the vehicle and assaulted the Officer with a box cutter, causing non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect fled on foot towards the suspect vehicle that was being driven by the female suspect. The suspect entered the vehicle and fled. Officers again attempted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle but the driver ignored police lights and sirens. Officers initiated a short pursuit that ended when the suspect vehicle failed to stop at a red traffic signal at Story Road and Capitol Expressway, causing a multi-vehicle traffic collision. All involved parties sustained non-life threatening injuries as a result of the collision.

After the collision, both suspects exited the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. A short foot pursuit ensued and the suspects were taken into custody. A search of the suspect vehicle and suspects revealed a replica firearm and a box cutter believed to have been used by the male suspect.

Both suspects will be identified in the coming days. The suspects were booked at Santa Clara County Main jail for multiple felony charges.
