On October 22, 2022, patrol Officers responded to a felony assault in the 3000 block of Florence Avenue. The suspect and victim were housemates. The suspect struck the victim several times in the face with closed fists and fled the area. The victim suffered swelling to his face, but refused medical attention. Officers documented the incident, collected evidence, circulated the area for the known suspect, and completed a report. Later that evening, a second housemate located the victim on the ground of his bedroom after apparently collapsing and hitting his head on the edge of his bed frame. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
On October 28, 2022, SJPD was advised that the victim had succumbed to his injuries. Based on the evidence, Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect. The suspect was arrested on November 11, 2022 by Santa Clara County Sheriff's Deputies in San José. Detectives later booked the suspect into Santa Clara County Main Jail for the initial felony assault, with additional charges pending the results of the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office investigation.
On July 27, 2023, SJPD Homicide detectives were provided with the completed Santa Clara County Coroner's Office investigation that ruled the cause of death as homicide.
The case has been submitted to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office for review and determination of additional charges.
