On June 22, 2023, at approximately 10:56 PM, Officers responded to the 2000 block of Southwest Expressway on the report of an armed robbery involving three suspects. During the robbery, the suspects took the victim's personal property and their French bulldog at gunpoint. The suspects fled prior to police arrival, and Robbery Unit Detectives began an exhaustive and thorough investigation.

During the course of the investigation, Officers and Investigators conducted an extensive canvass of the area to locate potential surveillance footage and witnesses.  Ultimately, residential surveillance footage aided Detectives in identifying all three suspects. Detectives obtained arrest warrants for the suspects and search warrants for their residences.

On September 7, 2023, SJPD's Covert Response Unit (CRU) located all three suspects and arrested them in San José. The suspects were booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail. During the subsequent search of their residences and associated vehicles, firearms and ammunition were located. One of the firearms seized was a privately made firearm/ghost gun. The victim's French bulldog was also recovered uninjured and reunited with the owner.

The San José Police Department would like to thank members of the public that provided video surveillance and came forward as witnesses. We would like to encourage all those who own or plan on purchasing security cameras to register them with the SJCAM program. The SJCAM program helps SJPD to directly contact voluntary CAM registrants who are using security cameras in an area in which a crime occurred. Police would ask CAM registrants to check their video surveillance system for a specific date and time for video that may show activity involved with a crime, such as a getaway car or the direction that a person of interest was headed. Residents may voluntarily register here on SJPD.org

Anyone with information about these cases or similar cases is asked to contact Detective Mendoza #4395 of the San José Police Robbery Unit via email: 4395@sanjoseca.gov or 408-277-4166.
