On September 22, 2023, at approximately 10:31 AM, patrol Officers responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian near the intersection of Fruitdale Avenue and Princess Anne Drive. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2017 Nissan sedan, occupied by a lone adult male driver, was traveling eastbound on Fruitdale Avenue just west of Princess Anne Drive when it struck an adult male pedestrian who was crossing Fruitdale Avenue in a mobility scooter outside of any marked crosswalk.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where they succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased. The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. 

This is the 36th fatal collision, and the 37th traffic death of 2023. This was also the 21st pedestrian death of 2023.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
