On September 26, 2023, at approximately 3:23 AM, patrol Officers responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at the 40 block of S. Jackson Avenue. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2021 Peterbilt garbage truck, occupied by a lone adult male driver, was driving out of a rear parking lot when it struck an adult male pedestrian.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the garbage truck remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. 

This is the 39th fatal collision, and the 40th traffic death of 2023. This was also the 23rd pedestrian death of 2023.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
