SJPD Arrests Suspect For Robbery And Organized Retail Theft

On October 5, 2023, SJPD reserve Officers working an overtime secondary employment assignment at Valley Fair Mall responded to a call of an organized retail theft in progress at the Gucci store. Five masked males entered the store and stole approximately $50,000 worth of purses and merchandise. A responding reserve Officer detained one of the suspects, who immediately resisted, then attacked the Officer with punches. The Officer, aided by mall security, was able to take the suspect into custody after a brief struggle. Two stolen purses were recovered. The remaining suspects fled the scene prior to additional patrol Officers responding. 

San José Police Department Robbery Unit Detectives have taken over the investigation to identify the remaining outstanding suspects.  

It was discovered that Suspect Pruitt was a wanted fugitive out of the state of Nevada and had an active warrant for his arrest. The suspect was transported to Santa Clara County Main Jail and booked for robbery, organized retail theft, possession of burglary tools, assault on an Officer and his warrant.
