On June 29, 2023, the San José Police Department responded to a report of a purse snatch robbery in the 5000 block of Makati Circle in San José. A male suspect had stolen a purse from an adult female victim, causing non life-threatening injuries in the process. When confronted by a witness at the scene, the suspect brandished a firearm. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. Patrol units conducted the initial investigation, and the case was assigned to the SJPD Robbery Unit.
Through an extensive and thorough follow up investigation, Robbery Unit Detectives identified Suspect Robinson and Suspect Rivera as the primary suspects responsible, and also responsible for a series of robberies in the city of San José. Detectives obtained arrest warrants for the suspects, and search warrants for their residence.
On October 3, 2023, SJPD patrol Officers arrested suspect Robinson on unrelated charges. He was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail, where he remained in custody.
On October 18, 2023, Officers from the SJPD Covert Response Unit (CRU) located suspect Rivera in San José and she was taken into custody without incident. Detectives executed a search warrant at her residence and located a short barreled rifle, two handguns converted to fully automatic fire, firearm parts, ammunition, and high capacity magazines.
Suspect Rivera was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for robbery and conspiracy charges. Additional charges will be added to Suspect Robinson while in custody.
