On September 19, 2023, at approximately 12:48 PM, Officers responded to the area of Capitol Expressway and Monterey Road for a shooting. Upon arrival, Officers located an adult male that had been shot at least once. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene.
SJPD Homicide Detectives responded to the scene and began a thorough investigation. During the course of the investigation, Detectives identified the suspect as Javier Yanez and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
On Friday, October 20, 2023, members of the SJPD Covert Response Unit (CRU) took the suspect into custody in San Jose. The suspect was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for homicide.
This was the City's 27th homicide of 2023.
