SJPD Arrests Suspect for Cinco de Mayo Shooting

On May 5, 2023, at approximately 8:34 PM, patrol Officers responded to a call of a weapons discharge in the 30 block of Southside Drive. An unknown suspect discharged a firearm that resulted in a non life-threatening graze wound to a victim. The San José Police Department Gang Investigations Unit Detectives began a thorough investigation, and identified Juan Samarron as the primary suspect.

SJPD Gang Investigation Unit Detectives and Gun and Hazardous Offender Suppression Team obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect and a search warrant for his  residence. On November 7, 2023, San José Police Departments Covert Response Unit (CRU), with the assistance of SJPD Patrol units, served the warrants and arrested the suspect in the city of Hollister. A Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO) was granted by the Santa Clara County Superior Court. The search warrant and GVRO resulted in the seizure two semi-automatic handguns, one bolt action rifle and one semi-automatic rifle. The suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and firearm related charges.
