On November 26, 2023, at approximately 12:34 AM, patrol Officers responded to a hit-and-run traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of Capitol Expressway and Bluefield Drive. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 2016 white Range Rover SUV, occupied by an adult female driver and two juvenile passengers, was travelling eastbound on Capitol Expressway when it struck an adult male pedestrian who was crossing southbound. The pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The driver fled the scene of the accident, but was later located at her residence and taken into custody without incident. The driver was booked at Santa Clara County Main Jail for felony hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and child endangerment.
This is the 44th fatal collision, and the 46th traffic death of 2023. This was also the 25th pedestrian death of 2023.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
