SJPD Arrests Three Suspects for Underground Casino, Drug Sales, and Illegal Firearms

During a months long investigation, Street Crimes Unit (SCU) Officers conducted follow up on criminal activity at a residence in the 2800 block of Garden Avenue and developed information that the residence was a front for an illegal gambling house, which served as a base for drug sales and illegal possession of firearms. SCU Officers identified the primary operators, and obtained a search warrant for the residence.

On November 30, 2023 at approximately 6:30 AM, with the assistance of the MERGE Unit, Officers served the search warrant. Approximately 34 individuals were located in the residence and detained.  Suspect Pham and Suspect Xuan Nguyen did not exit the residence during the initial search, and were located hiding in the crawlspace of the residence. Officers seized nine gambling machines, $2075 in cash, multiple narcotics pipes, and approximately 44.1 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

Officers located a stolen handgun that had been converted to a fully automatic machine pistol. An additional firearm, ammunition, and a loaded high-capacity magazine were also located in the residence.

The three suspects were arrested for multiple firearm related charges, drug sales, conspiracy, maintaining and operating a drug house, and operating an illegal gambling establishment. All three were booked at Santa Clara County Main Jail. Additionally, seven other individuals located at the residence at the time of the search warrant were booked for outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants.
