On August 24, 2023, at approximately 9:37 PM, San José Police Department Officers responded to a shooting at the 1500 block of Alum Rock Avenue. Upon arrival, all parties had fled the scene. A victim was later identified after self-transporting to a local hospital with at least one gunshot wound, ultimately resulting in non-life threatening injuries.
San José Police Gang Investigation Unit (GIU) Detectives began a thorough investigation and evidence revealed that the shooting was gang-motivated. Detectives identified the three primary suspects responsible for the shooting: Adan Villa-Cruz, Osmin Matadamas, and Ivan Quezadas.
SJPD GIU Detectives obtained arrest and search warrants for all three suspects and their respective residences. On September 26, 2023, suspect Matadamas and suspect Quezadas were arrested without incident in the city of San José.
On November 29, 2023, suspect Villa-Cruz was arrested in the city of San José by SJPD GIU Detectives, with the assistance of SJPD Patrol Officers and the SJPD Violent Crimes Unit, which is comprised of Assaults Unit Detectives, SJPD Special Operations personnel, and the Gun & Hazardous Offender Suppression Team (G.H.O.S.T).
While serving the search warrant at suspect Villa-Cruz's residence, SJPD Officers found illegal narcotics for sale as well as live ammunition.

All suspects were booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for various felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, possession of narcotics for sale, and illegal possession of ammunition.
