On December 14, 2023, at approximately 7:40 AM, SJPD patrol Officers responded to a collision involving a vehicle and bicyclist in the area of Monterey Road and Alma Avenue. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 2019 white Ford van, occupied by a male driver, was travelling northbound on Monterey Road turning into a parking lot south of Alma Avenue, when it collided with an adult male bicyclist travelling northbound in the bike lane. The bicyclist lost control and struck a fire hydrant.
The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was stabilized. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
On December 19, 2023, the bicyclist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
This is the 46th fatal collision, and the 48th traffic death of 2023.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
