On January 10, 2024 at approximately 5:47 PM, Patrol Officers responded to the area of Descanso Drive and North First Street for a report of a hit and run vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, Officers located an adult male victim with life-threatening injuries. Despite life saving efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased on scene. Preliminary evidence indicated the collision to be an intentional act by the driver. Additionally, a preliminary examination of the victim revealed that he was also shot.
The suspect fled in the suspect vehicle prior to police arrival.
During the course of the investigation, Detectives identified the primary suspect as Mikel McNack and obtained a warrant for his arrest. On January 11, 2024, Officers from the SJPD Covert Response Unit (CRU) located and arrested Suspect McNack at a residence in Sacramento. McNack was transported to San José and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for Homicide.
SJPD is asking the public for assistance locating the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle is described as a Grey 2017 Infiniti QX30 SUV bearing a California license plate of 8TQV123. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the above pictured vehicle is urged to contact SJPD.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
This is the City's 1st homicide of 2024.
