On January 30, 2024, at approximately 6:30 AM,  Patrol Officers responded to a report of a shooting at a hotel in the 1300 block of North 4th Street in San José. Upon arrival, Officers located an adult male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Officers began lifesaving measures on scene and summoned emergency medical personnel. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries but later stabilized and his injuries were downgraded to non life threatening. 

Detectives from the San José Police Department Assaults Unit responded and began a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the incident.  During the course of the investigation, Assaults Unit Detectives identified Fernando Macias as the primary suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

On February 13, 2024, Officers from the Special Operations MERGE Unit located and arrested the suspect at a hotel in the city of Santa Clara. The suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted homicide.

The motive and circumstances surrounding the event are still under investigation.
