On December 17, 2023, at approximately 4:19 AM, Officers responded to the area of Snow Drive and Giusti Drive for reports of a firearms discharge. When Officers arrived, they located evidence on scene indicating that a shooting had occurred. A short time later, two adult male victims arrived at a local hospital suffering from at least one gunshot wound each. Despite life saving efforts, one of the victims succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The second victim suffered a non-life threatening injury and was stabilized.
SJPD Homicide Unit Detectives responded to the scene and conducted a thorough and comprehensive investigation. Detectives identified Joshua Sodapop Bocanegra and Michael Carabajal as the suspects responsible for the homicide and obtained warrants for their arrests.
On February 15, 2024, the SJPD Covert Response Unit (CRU) located and apprehended suspect Bocanegra in the city of San Francisco. Suspect Carbajal was located and apprehended in the city of Gilroy. Both suspects were booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for homicide.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
This is the City's 33rd homicide of 2023.
