***UPDATE*** SJPD Arrests Suspect for Homicide #7

On February 18, 2024, at approximately 8:53 PM, Patrol Officers responded to the parking lot of a business in the 3000 block of Story Road for a report of a shooting. It was later determined that a vigil for an adult male that had passed away was taking place in the area. Upon arrival, Officers located two victims who had each been shot at least once. Officers attempted life saving measures on scene. An adult female victim was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries and later stabilized. The second victim, an adult male, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

During the course of the investigation, Officers discovered that an additional adult female victim had been dropped off at a local hospital with at least one gunshot wound. The second female victim sustained injuries that were later determined to be non-life threatening. The San José Police Department Homicide Unit responded to the scene and began a comprehensive investigation into the incident. During the course of the investigation, Detectives identified the suspect as Juan Carlos Perez and obtained a warrant for his arrest. 

On March 1st, 2024, the Covert Response Unit (CRU) located the suspect in a vehicle and apprehended him in San José. Suspect Perez was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for homicide.

The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation. 

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.

This was the City's 7th homicide of 2024.
